Rainer Warzecha - Outdoor projects and art in public
spaces in collaboration with friends
| Outdoor
works / works with friends - there are some art projects
in the public eye, mainly based on project ideas for institutions
or undertaken as 'volunteerism in art for public places'. As a main
topic I have done a lot of murals, wall paintings and legal(!) graffiti.
The first works I carried out during the eighties in Berlin were
a precursor of my my later successes in doing 'big pictures' - actually
a lot of 'earthworks'
(sculptures) - mainly huge sculptures made of earth - but also some
more huge mural paintings.
In
sideline of mural painting and earth sculpting I shared some beautiful
works with Robin Cooke, an English artist, familiar with the 'MUTOID
WASTE' tribe from London. See one of his big scrap sculptures in
Berlin.

Käferman!
What
a massive thing. Can you recognize the VW-Beetle in the centre?
Well as you can see me in the corner down, I was amazed, when in
1989 - just before the Berlin Wall came
down - I found myself in collaboration with the builders of this
wonderful giant. The concept was Robin Cooke's and the MUTOID WASTE
team. It was meant as a gift to the East and West Berliners and
should pass through the wall.
This 'peace and love project' was carried out during a three week
camp at Görlitzer Park and without any monetary help, only
scrap materials were used.

The
sculpture was destroyed in1990 by council authorities.

Up
to now this remains the biggest wall painting, I have been involved
in. It is the famous KUKUCK mural of the early eighties - a well
known symbol of the squatters' movement in Berlin. We worked for
about 3 months to paint the 2 big spaces and an additional screen.
It
was destroyed in 1985 by the new owners. For me a starting point
for an 'art-career'!
2004
- another big one in my hometown ... |

Also
huge - this huge ground painting in Berlins Britzer Garden is unique.
Children can walk across a painted globe and learn by means of small
images and symbols about culture, the biosphere and basic geography.
I did this first in 1995 /98. In 2006
a nice relaunch was possible...
